    Skill Specialty Levels

Post by Echo on Sat Oct 13, 2012 3:15 am

    Skill Specialties

Skill Specialties are areas of combat, or utility your character specializes in. Having certain skill specialties allows you to use more advanced fighting styles, and Jutsu that are categorized within that specialty. This allows you to perform more advanced techniques the higher your mastery in that specialty is.

Now, there are 8 different main types of Skill Specialties, excluding the Weaponry sub specialties.

      Levels of Mastery

Your level of mastery in a skill specialty basically shows how skilled you are in that area. The higher the level, the more skilled you are, the lower, the less skilled. Having a higher level specialty allows you to use more advanced techniques in that specialties field.

There are 5 different levels of mastery one can obtain over a skill specialty. When placing points, you begin at Novice.

      • Unskilled

Unskilled is not an actual level of mastery. An unskilled specialty is a specialty that you do not have on your application, and have not put any points into. Upon reaching S rank, you may begin using Unskilled techniques from other specialties up to C rank.

      • Novice

Novice is the most basic one can get with a skill specialty. The lowest of the low. A Novice is often someone who is completely new to their specialty, thus their skill with it is equivalent to that of a Genin.

      • Adept

An Adept is someone with more skill in their area of combat then that of a Novice. They pick things up slightly faster then a Novice would, but are still fairly low in the level chain. An Adept is often where most Genin would find themselves around the time the Chuunin Exams come.

      • Expert

As usual, an Expert stands above it's predecessors in it's field of combat. Capable of picking up techniques much faster, and performing them swiftly. At this point, their skill in that area would be equivalent to that of a Chuunin. While Experts do stand above Adepts and Novices, and are fairly skilled, they are not quite Masters yet, and still have a lot of room to grow.

      • Artisan

An Artisan, similar to Expert, stands above it's predecessors in it's skill specialty. At this point their skill in that area would be similar to that of a Jounin. They are capable of picking techniques up at a much faster pace, and are very agile in combat compared to those below them.

      • Master

The highest point one can reach as far as skill specialty progression goes. A Master is capable of picking up new techniques within it's field with the swiftest speed, and is devastating in combat compared to the previous 4 levels. Masters are often those who find themselves in leader positions such as Kages.

      So how does this work?

It's quite simple. You are given points when you either create your character, or you rank up. With those points, you can either upgrade an existing specialty you may already have, or get a new specialty, so long as you're within the limits for your rank. Whether or not you have available specialty points to use, you can find on your Shinobi ID. 1 Point = 1 Level.

The amount of points you start with depends on the rank you're applying for.

      The Specialties

      Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu is a term referring to almost any technique which allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. Unlike genjutsu, which makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are real. They vary greatly in purpose, with the simpler ninjutsu serving such tasks as transforming the user or allowing them to evade attacks. These techniques are often second-nature for experienced shinobi, who can use them at will. More complex ninjutsu manipulate one's surroundings or utilize the elements, respectively serving such tasks as manipulating nature transformations.

Ninjutsu, most of the time, relies on chakra and hand seals to be effective. The hands are put in sequential positions that mold and manipulate chakra in the necessary manner to perform a technique. This is not always needed, however, and some techniques become second nature to experienced ninja, after which they can perform them at will.

        Additional Starting Ryo: 0

      • Unskilled

Those who do not have the Ninjutsu Skill Specialty are capable of learning up to C rank Ninjutsu techniques so long as they are an S ranked ninja. They are only capable of learning Ninjutsu within their own elements, or only non elemental Ninjutsu if they do not have an element.

      • Novice

At Novice level, one has the most basic skill with Ninjutsu. Often, they are just discovering their first element. With a Novice level Ninjutsu Specialty, you are capable of using up to C rank Ninjutsu, and are quite sluggish when it comes to executing your Jutsu. Your style is very sloppy, thus you are only capable of using 3 - 4 C ranked Jutsu before exhausting yourself. Most Novices stick with D and E ranked techniques.

      • Adept

At Adept level, one has a more common skill with Ninjutsu. At this point, most would have a solid element, and are training new techniques day by day. With an Adept level Ninjutsu Specialty, you are capable of using up to C rank Ninjutsu, and are slightly faster than a Novice when it comes to executing your Jutsu. Those with an Adept level Ninjutsu Specialty are capable of learning 1 B ranked Jutsu so long as they are taught it from a master in RP, following the Training Rules. As an Adept, your understanding, and speed of executing Jutsu, as well as chakra control is higher than the skill of a Novice, but still quite low in the skill chain.

      • Expert

At Expert level, one has even more skill with Ninjutsu. At this point, most would have a solid element, and are training with a new, second element. With an Expert level Ninjutsu Specialty, you are capable of using up to B rank Ninjutsu, and are faster than an Adept when it comes to executing your Jutsu. Those with an Expert level Ninjutsu Specialty are capable of learning 1 A ranked Jutsu so long as they are taught it from a master in RP, following the Training Rules. As an Expert, your understanding, and speed of executing Jutsu, as well as chakra control is higher than the skill of an Adept.

      • Master

At Master level, one is the most skilled in all things Ninjutsu. At this point, most would have two solid elements, and possibly even a third. With a Master level Ninjutsu Specialty, you are capable of using up to A rank Ninjutsu, and are faster than all of your predecessors when it comes to executing your Jutsu. Those with a Master level Ninjutsu Specialty are capable of learning S ranked Techniques, which limit depends on your Rank. As a Master, your understanding, and speed of executing Jutsu, as well as chakra control is well beyond that of an Artisan. A Master has flawless chakra control when using Ninjutsu, thus every ounce of their chakra is put to good use, and they are capable of lasting longer in battles that use a lot of chakra, compared to the previous ranks.

      Taijutsu

Taijutsu is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally require no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are much quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. Taijutsu is simply put: hand-to-hand combat.

        Additional Starting Ryo: 0

      • Unskilled

Those who do not have the Taijutsu Skill Specialty are capable of learning up to C rank Taijutsu techniques so long as they are an S ranked ninja. Any ninja at any rank is capable of throwing a punch or a kick, thus every ninja has passive growing Taijutsu skills. Compared to someone with a Taijutsu specialty, they are far less skilled.

At Novice level, one has the most basic skill with Taijutsu. With a Novice level Taijutsu Specialty, you are capable of using up to C rank Taijutsu techniques, and are quite sluggish when it comes to executing your them. Those with an Expert level Taijutsu Specialty are capable of learning 1 A ranked Taijutsu technique so long as they are taught it from a master in RP, following the Training Rules. As an Expert, your understanding, and speed of executing Taijutsu techniques, as well as overall control is higher than the skill of an Adept. As an Expert in Taijutsu, you are capable of blows that can leave craters on the sides of tree trunks.

      • Artisan

At Artisan level, one has even more skill with Taijutsu. At this point, your stamina, strength, and overall body control stretch beyond that of an Expert. A Taijutsu Master has earth shattering blows capable of shattering the ground behind the impact. (Must be backed up by a Jutsu)

      Genjutsu

Genjutsu are techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses.

This is often used to create false images or to cause pain from trauma (because the body is led to believe it is in pain); however, there are plenty of other uses depending on the situation. Genjutsu can also be used for other supplementary purposes such as interrogating an individual by breaking their will.

A Master has flawless concentration, thus every ounce of their chakra and mind is put to good use.

      Weaponry

Putting it short, Weaponry users focus on weapons. Having the Weaponry skill specialty allows you to have a small mastery over almost any weapon you pick up, but in a hybrid state. You have a small mastery in all, thus you are the master of no specific type of weapon. There are sub specialties under Weaponry which focus on specific types of weapons, but with a raw Weaponry specialty, if you fought against someone with a mastery in Kenjutsu with a sword, they would display far more skill with a sword then you would.

Weaponry users often rely on overwhelming their foe with barrages of different weapons at a time, often stored in basic sealing scrolls.

      Weaponry Sub Specialties

Weaponry Sub Specialties are specialties where you devote yourself to one type of weapon. Unlike basic weaponry users, specializing in a Sub Specialty will allow you complete mastery over that type of weapon, even beyond that of someone who has basic Weaponry. Though because you focus on just 1 weapon, your skill with different types of weapons fails drastically compared to the variety a Weaponry user has.

A list of Weaponry Sub Specialties has been made below. They will link you to a new topic where all types of sub specialties for weaponry will be added over time, as people begin to show interest in having stuff such as Kyūdō, and other styles of weaponry.

Visit the topic for more details.

      Puppetry

The Puppet Technique is a unique ninjutsu fighting style; this technique uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. The Puppet Technique is a long range style, meaning that most puppeteers are weak against close range fighters. Since most puppeteer use his or her hands to manipulate the puppets, if their hands are disabled, then the technique can be neutralized. And because the puppet's movements are based on the mechanisms that were installed inside, interfering with said mechanisms can stall the puppet entirely.
